As a child, I asked whether pockets of the Universe could have temporal differentials and I was laughed at. I'd long believed that time and gravity aren't quite the constants they're believed to be. It's far more complicated than that, we never think about how micro- wnd macro- scales interact. Physics can be kinda reductive?

@tao i havent read the replies..

but i always told the PhD trainees at the unis i worked at that Kary Mullis' PCR paper was rejected by the journal Science!!

(for those that don't know, PCR has utterly revolutionized molecular biology research, and so many things rely on it)
